Move over Mary Berry; Vision hosted the Great Vision Bake Off in aid of Macmillan’s Biggest Ever Coffee Morning on Friday 30th September.

Our very own team of amateur bakers donned their best aprons in a bid to win the coveted title which was judged by Amanda Wood and Ria Kelsall of Lloyds Bank.

Over 14 cakes were entered altogether by staff from the Vision head office with the sweet delights judged on both their appearance and their taste. The winner of the taste prize went to Head of Vision’s Marketing, Alison Burns, who created a salted caramel torte whilst the cake with the best appearance was awarded to Jackie Berry, Business Development Manager, for her hedgehog creation.

Alison said: “It’s great to see that so many people have come together to get involved in such a momentous charity event that takes place all over the UK.

Cancer affects as many as one in three people in the UK today so it’s hugely inspiring to see how the Vision staff have collectively chipped in to raise money, provide prizes and bake cakes; all with the selfless aim of providing respite to someone who may be faced with this illness.”

Winners were treated to a bottle of premium Vueve Clicquot champagne and staff got to sample all the cakes on offer after donating to the Macmillan fund.


The World’s Biggest Ever Coffee Morning, organised by one of UK’s cancer support charities, Macmillan Cancer Support, began in 1990 and has since raised over £138 million to raise money for essential medical, emotional and financial support to those living with cancer. Last year alone, the event raised £25 million with businesses and individuals hosting their own coffee mornings across the length and breadth of the country.

Just £28 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour who can help people with much-needed emotional and medical support whilst £60 can go towards a Macmillan Grant aimed at buying a liquidiser for those who can’t eat solid food as a result of their cancer treatment.


Also taking place within Vision HQ was a fun-filled day of events aimed at raising as much money as possible including a dress-down day and raffle with a whole host of toiletries, champagne, and chocolates to be won.

All in all, the day itself raised over £400 with Vision also promising to match any donations made by the staff on the day in the hope that these funds will go some way to providing some assistance in comfort to those who have been affected by cancer.
